The Minister for Regional Re-organization and Development, Dan Kweku Botwe has stressed that government is not financing the campaign for the creation of additional regions in the country.

He added that though the move was captured in the New Patriotic Party’s 2016 election manifesto, government is only acting on six petitions received for the creation of new regions from the Northern, Volta, Western and Bono-Ahafo regions.

Mr. Botwe made the remarks in Ho during a sensitization workshop for media practitioners and directors of the Information Service Department and National Commission for Civic Education.

It is aimed at equipping stakeholders with constitutional procedures on creation of new regions to enable them create the awareness in the public domain.

Mr. Botwe explained that government is not championing the course of the petitioners but rather facilitating the process in adherence to a constitutional provision for the citizenry.

This according to him is through the setting up of an independent Commission of Inquiry to administer the process.

The Commission of Inquiry is set to organise public hearings at selected locations in the Volta Region beginning from next week.
