File photo File photo

The leadership of the Ghana Nurse – Midwife Trainees Association (GNMTA) has denied claims by government that it has settled financial clearance for some eight thousand and fourty two (8,042) nurses to be engaged in the health sector.

Reports were rife that hat unemployed nurses have been cleared financially paving way for them to start their permanent employment in various public health facilities.

A letter dated 24th May, 2018 with reference No. B/CMU/2018/FC04 and signed by Deputy Minister of Finance, Hon. ABENA OSEI -ASARE, had indicated the said financial clearance for the over eight thousand unemployed nurses.

But a statement released by the leadership of the GNMTA said the much publicized clearance is absolutely erroneous, hence must be disregarded by its members and the general public.

“The general public and the media are to note that, the released financial clearance is to effect payment of national service allowance for nurses who completed school in August 2017 and commenced their mandatory national service/rotation on 1st April, 2018. This does not affect the nurses who are due for permanent employment,” the statement noted.
