Government donates Toyota Bus to JAK-CITI

Nkwanta-Kese (Ash), Dec.27, GNA - The government on Saturday presented a 33-seater Toyota Costa Benz Bus valued at GH¢ 102,000 and a cash of GH¢ 20,000 to the John Agyekum Kufuor Catholic Information Technology Institute (JAK-CITI) at Nkwanta-Kese in the Afigya-Kwabre District.

Mr Akwasi Karikari Achamfuor, District Chief Executive who made the presentation on behalf of the President said it was in fulfilment of the promise he made to the Institute when he officially inaugurated it in September this year.

He pointed out that the bus was to convey people to and from the centre whilst the money was to support the community education fund and enhance health projects in the town.

The Institute, established by the government in collaboration with the Catholic Diocese of Konongo-Mampong is to help train the police, the military, teachers, staff of District Assemblies and other relevant workers. It would also serve the middle belt and the southern sector of the country in the training of Information and Communications Technology and other skill development projects. Mr Abraham Kofi Asante, the Administrator of the Ghana Investment Fund for Telecommunications said the fund had donated 50 computers to the Institute and it intended to provide it with internet connectivity. He said the government would provide the Institute with a hostel which could accommodate 50 students.

He said syllabus had already been drawn and lectures would take off early January.

The Reverend Monsignor John Opoku-Agyemang, Episcopal Vicar for Clergy and Religion of the Konongo-Mampong Diocese, thanked President Kufuor and the New Patriotic Party government as well as Mr Albert Kan Dapaah, Defence Minister and Member of Parliament (MP) for Sekyere East for their contributions towards the development and progress of the Institute.

Madam Lydia Osei, Principal of the Institute appealed to the workers to be honest, patient and sacrificial to enable them to develop the school.

She also called for cooperation and support from the chiefs and people in the area stressing that she was ready to receive advice from them at all times to advance the cause and objectives of the founders of the Institute. Nana Boakye Ababio, Chief of Nkwanta-Kese commended the President for fulfilling his promise and expressed the hope that the government would continue to support them in their development efforts.
