Government dismisses claims of non-payment

The Government on Monday dismissed alleged non-payment of salaries to some section of public servants, saying the move was calculated to tarnish its image.

Speaking at a media briefing in Accra, Dr Anthony Akoto Osei, Minister of State at the Finance Ministry said public servants salaries had been paid in full to date.

"It is important we correct the misconception that teachers and health workers are not being paid. It is not true," Dr Osei said. While acknowledging difficulties in the payroll system, which sometimes results in delays in paying salaries and promotion arrears, the Minister said efforts had been made to settle all these arrears.

Over 23,190 workers were paid their promotion arrears totalling GH¢ 2.7 million, he said.

Dr. Osei said the December salaries of all public sector workers had already been sent to the Bank of Ghana.
