Government committed to eradicating guinea worm

Tamale, Feb. 24, GNA - The National Programme Manager of the Guinea Worm Eradication, Dr. Seidu Korkor has said government was committed to eradicating the disease from the country.

He said even though Ghana had achieved about 99.9 per cent guinea wo= rm eradication rate, there was the need of the media and all and sundry to support efforts aimed at the totally eradication of the disease. Dr. Korkor said that "There are only four reported cases this year compared to 95 same time last year".

The National Programme Manager, who was interacting with the media i= n Tamale on Wednesday, said this year's budget had allotted GH¢4 million for the elimination of the disease. Dr. Korkor said guinea worm is water borne disease and advised the people to drink potable water to avoid contracting the disease. The Northern Regional Director of Health, Dr. Akwasi Twumasi called on the media to support the Ghana Health Service to fight the disease. 24 Feb. 10
