Government commissions ultra-modern market in Ashaiman

The Ashaiman Municipal Assembly (ASHMA), in collaboration with Nat Uprising Company Limited and Akyemfour and Sons Constructions, has officially commissioned the ultra-modern Nii Annan Adjor Market.

The project, an initiative of the assembly, aims to regenerate the old Ashaiman Kufuor Station, also known as Nii Annan Adjor Market, into a modern market complex providing a serene environment for business activities.

The newly built facility, which began construction in 2021 under the auspices of former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Albert Okyere, features over 700 stores, washrooms, a banking hall, lorry parks, and more.

Speaking at the event, the current MCE for Ashaiman, Freeman Tsekpo, said the project is part of the assembly’s plan to transform the old market into a modern complex.

He added that it was prudent for the assembly to conduct a decongestion exercise in all unauthorised spaces to encourage traders to settle in the new market and continue business operations.

“With the growing population of Ashaiman, plans are underway to ensure all three markets in the municipality are upgraded into ultra-modern facilities,” he noted.

Rebecca Mensah, a representative of the traders, thanked the assembly for keeping its promise and assured that the market would be well maintained. She urged all roadside traders to relocate to the new facility, which has ample space to accommodate them.

On safety, Tema Regional Fire Officer ACFO II Patrick Salah advised users to avoid open fires and to switch off electronic devices when not in use. He commended the assembly for providing all necessary equipment to address fire hazards.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ashaiman, Ernest Henry Norgbey, thanked President John Mahama for supporting the project under the 24-hour economy policy.

He also appealed to constituents to comply with the ongoing decongestion exercise, noting that affected traders would be relocated to continue their operations.

The Special Guest, Greater Accra Regional Minister Linda Akweley Ocloo, assured that concerns raised would be delivered to the president and promised that Ashaiman, as a stronghold of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), would not be left out of President Mahama’s resetting agenda.

She concluded by urging everyone to cultivate the spirit of maintenance and support the current administration in delivering its mandate.

The event was attended by Islamic scholars, pastors, party executives of the NDC, as well as members of the NPP.
