The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has announced that the government will allocate GH¢1 billion from the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) to phase out the double-track system in Senior High Schools (SHSs).
Speaking at the commissioning of a new staff accommodation facility at Accra Girls’ Senior High School on Thursday, September 11, 2025, Iddrisu explained that the funds will be captured in the 2026 national budget as part of efforts to address the infrastructure deficit that necessitated the introduction of the double-track system.

“We are committed to ending the double-track system as our contribution to improving the quality of Senior High School education. Accordingly, in the 2026 GETFund formula, President Mahama has directed Finance Minister Dr Ato Forson to allocate GH¢1 billion specifically to manage the transition and address the challenges associated with it,” he stated.

The double-track system was introduced in 2018 under former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to ease congestion in SHSs.
