Government Urged To Check Encroachment On Owabi Dam Reserve

Owabi (Ashanti Region), 9 Oct.,

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Atwima- Nwabiagya, Mr James Adusei Sarkodie, has called on the government to check encroachment and destruction of the forest reserve around the Owabi Dam. Mr Sarkodie made the call at a meeting with workers of the Ghana Water and Sewerage Corporation (GWSC) and residents of Owabi in the Atwima District during his tour of the constituency. The tour was to enable him to have fore-hand information about the situation of the Dam and its future as well as problems facing the people and workers. Mr Sarkodie said if nothing was done to protect the dam, the three million gallons of water supplied daily to the communities would not be achieved. The MP observed that the dam was being neglected by the GWSC because roads leading to it had been neglected while the whole area looked untidy. He urged the people to keep the environment in good condition at all times and refrain from defecating indiscriminately to avoid an epidemic.
