Over 1,700 road contractors owed by the government will start receiving their money from this week, Danquah Institute founder Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko has said.
According to him, over 1,400 of all the road contractors owed by the government will receive full payment.
“I’m reliably informed that no road contractor (none of the total 1,730) owed and being paid from this week through the Fidelity facility is to suffer a discount. Zero discount!
“Indeed, 1,418 (over 80%) contractors will be paid in full, with no arrears left!” President Nana Akufo—Addo’s cousin wrote on Facebook.
“This is, by far, the biggest amount of cash paid to contractors in a single year by any govt in Ghana. Not even by those whose only message is ‘infraction-structure’”, he wrote.
Speaking at the 43rd celebration of Kobine festival at Lawra in the Upper West region about two weeks ago, Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia also revealed that the contractors are going to be paid in two batches.
“By November, 80% of all road contractors the government owes will receive full payment for their certificates. The remaining 20% who turn to be the very big contractors will initially receive 40% of their amount to start with,” he announced to the gathering.
