Executive Director of the Danquah Institute Mr. Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, has heaved blame on NDC government for opening the floodgates for ceaseless industrial actions due to the way party officials and functionaries openly squander the nation’s monies without taking time off to watch out for the eyes trailing them.
The leading member of the opposition New Patriotic Party was sharing his opinion on ways the current administration could use in tackling the strike mode labour groups ply in order to get their discrepancies resolved.
For the past few months, this country has witnessed series of strike actions on the labour front. At the last count, five labour groups had embarked on strike this year. They are the Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG) who suspended medical services to National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) cardholders. This was followed by the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), Concerned Teachers Association (CCT), the Teachers and Educational Workers' Union and now UTAG.
Though Mr. Gabby Otchere Darko failed to provide a distinctive measure the government can use, he maintained on Joy FM’s News File that until government provides persuasive reasons as to how huge sums of monies are being spent day in and day out by them, the country is poised to face continual agitations. He further accused the government of maliciously using the task payers’ money on things they couldn’t account for.
“We are going to have agitations…because there is no money in the system and our monies are not being looked after properly. To me, that really is the issue”, he said.
According to him, until labour groups would have absolute trust that the current government can spend our monies well, government shouldn’t dream of experiencing peace.
