Gov’t must sack all striking doctors – Labour Federation

The Ghana Federation of Labour has asked the Government to be bold and sack all the public sector Doctors who have gone on strike.

According to the Federation, it finds the intransigence of the Doctors to call off their strike befuddling despite the illegality of the action.

Ghana’s labour laws forbid essential services from going on strike.

Secretary General of the Federation, Abraham Koomson speaking to XYZ News said he finds it repugnant that the Doctors are comparing their circumstances to that of the MPs.

He said the Government has every right and legal backing to sack all of them.

They have flouted the law because the law states that those who work in the essential services, water, harbours, airports and all that are not supposed to embark on strike actions.

“So what they are doing is gross lawlessness, no matter what grievances they have they shouldn’t have taken that action…if government sacks them all they have caused it”.

Labour Consultant Senyo Adjabeng is in agreement with the Ghana Labour Federation but insists it must be the last option.

Mr Adjabeng told XYZ News that the failure by Governments to crack the whip has emboldened the leadership of the Doctors to flout the labour laws with impunity.

He added that the Government must impose the harshest sanctions if possible to serve as a deterrent to others.
