Gov’t must listen to Judicial Council to avoid strikes – Judges

“If government will listen to the Judicial Council there will be no problem with the Judiciary and the Attorneys” that is the contention of one of the disgruntled lower court judges, His Honor Aboagye Tandoh.

Lower court judges in Ghana are threatening to embark on a strike on November 21, 2016, should government fail to increase their salaries.

In the letter addressed to the Chief Justice, and sighted by Kasapafmonline.com read in part “…members of the lower bench have taken a decision to withdraw our services from 21st November 2016 if the issue of the 10 percent is not addressed and the money paid to us,”

According to them, several efforts in having the issue resolved including writing a letter to the Ministry of Finance have proved futile.

Commenting on the development on the back of the threats from the Judges, His Honor Aboagye Tandoh said the path to stabilizing issues within the judiciary is still murky because government is not amenable to the advice of the Judicial Council.

“If they listen to the Judicial Council, I can assure you you’ll not hear anything of strike, anything of agitation from the Judiciary which is a secret institution…” he lamented on News File on Accra-based Joy FM.
