Gov't intends to make Christmas enjoyable - Minister

The government has begun settling outstanding bills owed to organisations, from Thursday. The decision which has been termed as non-road arrears is aimed at injecting more liquidity into the system between now and 20th December 2002.

The Minister of Finance, Mr. Yaw Osafo Maafo announced this in an interview in Accra on Thursday. According to Mr. Osafo Maafo, this is in line with government?s intention to make this year?s Christmas enjoyable to the public, since there is not much liquidity in the system as of now. He also announced that, more investors are likely to start operating in the country by the latter part of the year 2003. He said he is satisfied at the rate of investment enquiries being made by investors about their potentials in Ghana.

As to what the government is doing to source funds for development projects, Mr. Osafo Maafo said, he has begun exploring multilateral and bilateral negotiations with Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, apart from the traditional sources in Europe and America.
