Gov't feels the heat of NDC contracts

A substantial part of this year's (MPs) Common Fund will be used to service debts accruing from the various contracts awarded by the erstwhile NDC regime between July 2000 and January 2001.

A total of 110,102 contracts were awarded in the various districts during the period under review.

The MP for Old Tafo in Ashanti, Mr. Kyei Mensah-Bonsu disclosed this at the inauguration of the Old Tafo branch of the Young Elephants Movement.

The MP regretted that it was rather a very bad decision on the part of the former government to have saddled the current government with debts.

Mr. Bonsu who is also Majority Chief Whip said as the situation stands now the government would have to pay ?230 million outstanding debts to contractors before new contracts would be awarded.

The MP reiterated the government's promise to improve the plight of the people and deliver on its promise to provide positive change.

He said the NPP would need more than four years to put the economy on a sound footing.
