Gov’t behind Tamale disturbances – NPP

A leading contender in the General Secretary race of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Yaw Buaben Asamoa, has stated that the deliberate attempt to instigate violence in Tamale ahead of the upcoming congress will not be countenanced by his party.

“It is now clear that the government is behind the unending violent attack, killing of innocent people and burning of properties by the youth in Tamale,” he said.

The outspoken General Secretary aspirant stated that, if anything untoward happens at the Congress, the Mahama-led NDC government will be held accountable.

Mr. Yaw Buaben Asamoa was speaking to NPP delegates in the Volta Region.

He explained a specific pattern of a violent agenda in certain regions of the country targeted at NPP members.

“Whatever the machination is, the NPP congress will surely happen in Tamale,” he said.

He called on the state to provide maximum security as stipulated in the 1992 Constitution. “Every citizen of Ghana deserves protection from the Government of the day and that NPP delegates will demand that protection from this Government.”

Mr. Yaw Buaben Asamoa, who is also a former Deputy Communication Director of the NPP urged delegates and the leadership to be strong and firm on issues of law and order , adding that, the National Council has decided that the congress should be held in Tamale and that should be it.

“The leadership of the Party should not be intimated by the deliberate instigation of violence. We believe in the rule of law and that anybody should act as such. We are finally calling on the Security agencies to act in the direction,” he stated.
