Gov't Will be True To Promises - Nana Esuantsi

Sekondi, Aug 24, - Nana Kojo Esuantsi the First, a member of the Council of State, today reiterated that the government would fulfil its development programmes for Sekondi despite the fact that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) lost the election in the area. This is because of the government's determination to restore the splendour and liveliness of Sekondi through the creation of industries and attraction of local and foreign investors. Nana Esuantsi was addressing a grand durbar to round off the annual Kundum festival of the chiefs and people of Sekondi traditional area in Sekondi. He announced that a container port would established in Sekondi- Takoradi under a grand scheme for the economic revival of the metropolis. Other aspects of the scheme which are already being implemented are the Aboadze thermal power project and the export processing zone. Nana Esuantsi said the Western regional cultural centre would soon be completed at a cost of 630 million cedis. He said efforts are also being made to introduce more local languages like Ahanta, Wassa and Nzema on the local FM station to ensure that news and vital information reach a wider audience. New regional agriculture office structures have been constructed at a cost of about 325 million cedis, he added. Nana Esuantsi said one point six billion cedis will be allocated to the Shama Ahanta East Metropolitan Assembly as its share of the district assembly common fund for 1997. Mr Albert Bosomtwe Sam, deputy minister of the Interior, advised the people to act within the confines of the law to promote peace. He urged them to hand over people suspected to have broken the law to the police which must be allowed to thoroughly investigate such cases.
