Gov't Spends ?270bn On BA Roads

MR. ERNEST Akuboah Debrah, the Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, has said the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government since its assumption of the administration of this country, has spent a total of ?270 billion on the road sector in the region.

Out of this amount ?184 billion went into the highway segment of the road sector, while ?86 billion was spent on feeder roads.

Mr. Debrah hinted that in addition, 176 schools were rehabilitated within the same period.

The minister made the disclosure at ceremonies organised to commission two schools constructed for the people of Goaso and Mim, and a market for Dominase, all in the Asunafo district.

The Goaso school block was constructed for the Anglican JSS from the internally-generated fund of the Asunafo district assembly at the cost of ?14.5 million, while the Mim school cost ?90 million and was built for the AME Zion JSS.

The market project, according to the minister was ?330 million.

Mr. Debrah has announced that his government has come out with a new design for schools in the country.

The new design has staff common rooms, libraries, stores, toilets and other facilities in them and this sometimes called for additional construction of other facilities, creating extra cost for the state.

The minister said the government would not only build new schools without teachers to teach in them.

"We shall develop and motivate our teachers to go to wherever they are posted to," he added.

To ensure effective supervision and teaching, the minister has directed all district directors of education in the region to open record books for circuit supervisors to sign and record the purpose of their visit and the department to which they belong.

Mr. Debrah commended the district chief executive (DCE) for Asunafo, Mr. George Boakye, for his hardwork and transparency.

He advised the people of the district to support the DCE in the execution of his job.

The DCE announced that Mim which has the most student population in the district would benefit from the Social Investment Fund (SIF).

The SIF would be used to construct a library for the town.
