Gov't Outraged at Pornographic Pictures From Ghana

Government officials are outrage by reports that Ghanaian women have been mailing pornographic pictures of themselves to men in the United Kingdom for money. The women send their pictures to British men, particularly those in Liverpool, expressing their dreams to meet them for marriage and offer sexual favours.

Government got to know of the practice through the Ghanaian Embassy in London, which sent a copy of the news item carried by the ‘Liverpool Echo’ newspaper.

The story in the newspaper carried a photograph of a 20-year-old Ghanaian woman, Newbeth Owusu Gyambrah. Another letter from Regina Hagan lists her interests as reading, dancing and watching sexy films. “Anyone who gets involved in the correspondence is soon asked for cash in return for more letters and photographs,” the newspaper said.

A statement released by Ghana’s government said “the disturbing and disgraceful report shows a selfish, immoral and vicious practice which not only impacts negatively on the Ghanaian women, but also serves to discredit the image of Ghana.

The Liverpool Trading Standards is reported to be investigating the source of thousands of similar mails from Ghana, the newspaper said.
