Good neighborliness, foundation for development - Rev Frimpong

Kumasi, Dec. 25, GNA - The Reverend Kwabena Opuni Frimpong, Chairperson of the Asante Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, has noted that the development of every nation hinged on good neigbourliness, peace and unity.

He asked Ghanaians to avoid ethnic and religious conflicts and to become each others' keeper.

In a sermon at a Christmas service at the Adum Ramseyer Presbyterian Church in Kumasi, Rev. Frimpong said the birth of Christ has salvaged mankind from sin and evil.

He asked Christians to reflect on the significance of Christ's birth and re-dedicate themselves to the values of Christianity - love, care and affection, for the less fortunate in society.

Rev. Frimpong appealed to Christians to propagate the gospel to non-believers to turn them away from evil.

He advised Presbyterians to uphold the tenets of Christianity and be upright to project the image of the Church. At the Oforikrom Mercy Baptist Church, the Rev Yao Olympio, expressed worry about materialism that was fast becoming associated with some Christians, which according to him, was affecting the growth of Christianity.

He asked Christians to become true agents of change and reminded them that they were enjoined by their faith to be models to society, and to help eliminate enmity and hatred from society.

At the Grace Baptist Church, Amakom, Kumasi, Rev Ben Oppong, the Associate Pastor, said Christ should be the focus for the celebration of Christmas since he alone could bring peace and hope to mankind. He blamed poverty, infirmity, famine, conflicts and other troubles in the world on the rejection of God by the people. Rev. Oppong urged Christians to use the occasion to get closer to God in order to enjoy his love for which Jesus died for the world.
