The Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi, has announced an extension of the application period for new licenses for Ghanaians trading in gold.

The deadline has been moved from Wednesday, April 30, 2025, to Wednesday, May 21, 2025.

This three-week extension aims to provide additional time for traders and individuals to submit their applications, as well as for those who have already begun the process to complete it.

Sammy Gyamfi explained that the license application process falls under the GoldBod Act.

Addressing the press on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, he stated; “We know that many of you have not been able to apply at all. We can also see from the backend of our website and the license application portal that some of you have started the application process but have not yet completed it. A few of you have submitted your applications, and decisions are yet to be made by GoldBod. In view of this, the management of GoldBod has decided to extend the timeframe for Ghanaians who wish to apply for a license to trade in gold.”

“We've decided to extend the application window for the new GoldBod license from today, April 30, 2025, to May 21, 2025. So, we are giving you another three weeks. We believe this is fair and that the timeframe should be adequate for anyone serious about applying. In our press release dated April 23, 2025, we explained the process for license applications under the GoldBod Act,” he added.

The CEO further indicated that once applicants are deemed qualified, they will be contacted within a couple of weeks.

He also noted that although the law grants GoldBod 60 days to review and consider all applications, a special system has been implemented to expedite the process, enabling successful applicants to begin business with GoldBod promptly.
