God Made Me King -Asantehene

Otumfuo OSEI Tutu II yesterday broke his 11 years of silence on what necessitated his ascension to the Golden Stool, categorically stating that “God made me King.”

He indicated that there were equally competent and knowledgeable Ashanti royals like him who vied for the highest position in Asanteman, noting that divine intervention enabled him to come up tops. Otumfuo made this statement at the Calvary Charismatic Centre (CCC) at Asokore Mampong in Kumasi when he visited the well-esteemed church to thank God to climax series of activities marking his 60th birthday.

Giving gratitude to God, who he described as the only Omnipotent One, the Asante Monarch said, “My potential and expertise did not enabled me to become the Asantehene.”He added that his mother, Nana Afia Kobi Serwah Ampem, the Asantehemaa was not a contributory factor in for his selection as the 16th occupant of the Golden Stool.

The seemingly-elated Asante King reiterated that God, who has all power, chose him to lead Asanteman and he owes him gratitude for that, stressing he would forever be grateful to God his maker. “If we forget that we owe our positions on earth to God who created us then we will go nowhere,” Asantehene said to a rapturous applause by the charged worshippers.

Otumfuo narrated that God, the creator of heaven and earth and all things, picked him as king to lead his people to affluence and that is exactly what he would aspire for during his reign. “My heart most desire is to be the Asantehene who can lead his people to development and nothing else,” he said, adding that he would as well contribute his quota to ensure peace, unity, total transformation in the country.

According to him, the title of a king alone does not satisfy him “what pleases me most is what I can do as the Asantehene to help improve the living standard of our people, especially those dwelling in the rural areas.”

He admonished leaders not to use their positions to become lords over their servants, but show passion, love and concern for the oppressed and needy in society since that is what pleases God.

Describing himself as a mere mortal being who breathes air just as every human being, the Asantehene noted that the only difference between him and his servants is his position, which according to him, was given to me by God and not by his own strength.”

Otumfuo entreated the congregation and for that matter, all believers to always remember him in their prayers so as to enable him carry out his effectual plans to help develop Asanteman and Ghana. “I need your prayers and support to enable me become the best king that we all crave for,” Otumfuo said, stressing that God alone has all power, hence the need for humanity to seek his face at all times.

Delivering the sermon, Rev. Ransford Obeng, Head Pastor, CCC said mankind exists to serve God and humanity so he urged the populace to fulfill this mission.
