Girl, 9, defiled by NDC Chairman

By A. C. Ohene, Koforidua

Accra - Nana Abu Bonsrah, NDC Constituency Chairman for Juansa in the Asante Akim district, has fallen foul of the law. The 60-year-old, who doubles as the Amantenaman zonal organiser of the National Mobilisation Programme (NMP), is in police grips for allegedly raping a nine-year-old girl.

The victim (name withheld) was reportedly lured by Abu Bonsrah into his room, where he forcibly had sex with her. The father of the victim, Mr. Kwame Aboagye, told the Chronicle that on Sunday, March 26 this year, the NDC chairman, a regular visitor to their house, met the victim quarreling with her sister over iced water.

According to the girl's father, "Good Samaritan" Abu Bonsrah to settle the quarrel told the victim to go and wait for him at his house where he would give her some ice cubes.

Aboagye further narrated that a short while later Bonsrah went to his house where he met the victim patiently waiting for him in his room.

"He quickly locked the door from inside and shut the windows against protest and pleas by the little girl", the father said.

The NMP Zonal organiser then reportedly defiled the girl, after which he warned her not to disclose the incident to anybody, else she would die.

Shortly after a change in the girl's gait was noticed but not until she fell sick did she disclose Abu Bonsrah had defiled her.

The victim initially told a lie that she had a boil in her private part, but an examination at the Agogo Hospital established that she had been raped.

Abu Bonsrah was arrested by the Juansa police on Wednesday, March 29 and was expected to appear before a court last Monday April 3.

The Assemblyman for Juansa, Mr. George Yamoah Manu, and the police have confirmed the incident.
