Veteran journalist and Managing Editor of The Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr, says the National Identification Authority (NIA), is registering Ghanaians for ECOWAS Identity card and not a Ghana card.

Kwesi Pratt, Jnr who says he has registered and has received his card, told Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka AM Drive that ECOWAS Identity card is boldly written on the card instead of Ghanacard.

Kwesi Pratt asked the various political parties to desist from politicizing the whole exercise since it is being done in all countries under ECOWAS.

“I have not seen any Ghana card, I intentionally brought my card to the studio today…this card is being done everywhere, let’s not politicize this. Former President Kufour has no locus over this exercise. Such political rivalry poisons the atmosphere”, he added.

The National Identification Authority (NIA) which commenced a mass registration of Ghanaians for the Ghana Card nationwide last Monday stated that the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has agreed that the ECOWAS card be integrated onto the Ghana card.

Meanwhile, Founder and Leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana, Kofi Akpaloo, says the Executive Director of the of National Identification Authority, Prof. Ken Attafuah is doing a poor job with regards to the Ghana card project.

He says he can use just 4 months to restructure and come up with a better Ghana card project.

“We don’t need a Ghana card, we only need unique ID numbers and home addresses. I don’t want to personalize certain things but the man cannot do the job, he does not understand the job. Kufour gave him the opportunity but he could not utilise it…we don’t need too much money to do this if only we are determined to do this”, he stated.
