The sentencing of Nana Agradaa, controversial founder of the Heaven Way Church, to 15 years in prison has triggered widespread reactions across Ghana, ranging from relief and outrage to calls for reform.
Agradaa, known for her involvement in a money-doubling scheme, was convicted and sentenced, prompting mixed responses from the public, religious leaders, and legal experts.
“Agradaa is not the only one doing this. Many pastors are involved in money-doubling in churches. Fifteen years is too much. The government should ban these one-man churches,” one woman told GhanaWeb TV during an interview on July 7, 2025.
“I won’t say whether the sentence is fair, but based on the severity of her crime, the law has been just. If reviewed critically, she could’ve received even more. She should appeal and pray for leniency,” an anonymous man shared.
While some praised the ruling as a victory for justice, others felt the sentence was either too harsh or too lenient.
“Agradaa needs freedom. She hasn’t killed anyone. She’s a mother and a strong woman. The people who gave her money did so willingly. The sentence should be reduced,” another woman argued passionately.
“Ghanaians tolerate her too much. It’s the greedy and lazy who fall for her tricks. She should serve the sentence to learn a lesson,” a market woman added.
