Ghanaians woke up to news that some tenants of kiosks and containers around the private residence of His Excellency President Akufo-Addo were being ejected by National Security as part of protection for the President, who we are informed prefers sleeping in his own house than the official residence at the Flagstaff House.
MyNewsGh.com sources say the President himself has advised that the people who stay around his residence should not be touched under whatever circumstances; but by national security imperative, state security apparatus are leaving no stone unturned in protecting the President, and have consequently, after several delays, postponements, and negotiations finally moved in on the tenants to evacuate; compensating some with amounts ranging between 3000 cedis to 5000 cedis and in some cases, 10,000 cedis.
Some of the president’s neighbours we gather are unhappy about the ejection as they have lived and sustained themselves selling there for decades, and it appears also, that the compensation was not given to all of them.
Even for some of those who received the compensation, speaking to MyNewsGh.com under condition of anonymity, say they accepted the compensation because they know “they can’t fight against the president” and expect to win.
Social media has since been talking about the issue; some agreed with the necessity of the National security decision to protect The Number One Gentleman at all times, others saw it as “abuse of power”, while others questioned why the president cannot stay at the Flagstaff house, where the same people’s taxes have been used to provide accomodation for him by virtue of the office he occupies.
