Christmas is a time for numerous social events. Many people get involved in
voluntary work during the yuletide season -- collecting money for charitable
purposes or personally helping out in the local community. Christmas is also a
season for parties and Ghanaians in Chicago had many planned party events
yesterday, December 22 to choose from and kick the season's celebrations.

The Ashanteman, Brong-Ahafo and Ewe Associations in Chicago organized their
annual Xmas parties across Chicago land in a show of unity and camaraderie .

The luxurious Martinique Banquet Complex, 8200 S. Cicero Avenue, was the
venue for the Ewe Association's annual party. The "floor" of the Ewes party was
for the first time in the Association's history opened by the New President of
the Ghana National Council of Metropolitan Chicago, Mr. John Henry Assabill
and his wife.

In a short remark to the celebrants, the President of the Ewe
Asssociation,Dr. Mark Kutame thanked members of the Association for their hard work,
sacrifice, and dedication. He urged members of the organization to remain united .

Dr. Kutame ended his short statement with two hilarious questions to the
celebrants: " Why do people point to their wrists when asking for the time, but
don't point to their crotch when they are asking where the bathroom is?" ;
and also "If corn oil is made from corn, and vegetable oil is made from
vegetables, then what is baby oil made from?" It is of interest to note that members
of the Ewe Association here after being tired of dancing to recorded still
find energy to peform their own "live" Agadza, Borborbor or Kpalogo show to
crown the night!

The Ashanteman party at 8300 S. Ellis was the largest attended party in the
city with over 400 people. The Ashanteman Association used the occasion to
advertise the incoming Swearing-in of their New Chief and Queenmother, Nana
Addai Baffour and Ohemaa Abena Amponsah, and a Kente Dance Party on May 24 and
25th 2008 respectively.

Members of the Brong-Ahafo Association their friends and families converged
at the house of their president,Mr. Joe Konadu and danced the night away
joyously.
