Alongside many Ghanaians, Mr Taiwo Oluwole Sobiyi, a highly skilled Nigerian engineer, has garnered widespread recognition for his dedication and outstanding performance at Chevron.
With a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, a Master of Business Administration, and years of service in the energy sector, Mr Sobiyi continues to make significant contributions, particularly in subsea engineering and power systems management.
Currently, he serves as the Power and Control Systems Advisor at Chevron Lagos, playing a crucial role in ensuring the efficiency of power and control operations on the Agbami Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) facility.
As a key member of the Agbami FPSO Incident Emergency Management Team (IEMT), Mr Sobiyi provides expertise in control systems, electrical instrumentation, and power generation and distribution.
He is responsible for inspecting, troubleshooting, and repairing a wide range of power and control systems, including Yokogawa Centum VP, Trusted TMR, RS Logix, Woodward, Autronica F&G System, Rockwell PMS systems, Generator Control Panels, GE Multilin Protection Relays, Gutor UPS systems, GE LM2500 Turbines, and GE 11kV Alternators.
“I’ve had some Ghanaians in my team. They’re very intelligent and I am immensely honoured to have worked with them,” he said in a virtual interview.
Mr Sobiyi continues, “My technical proficiency over the years has helped me with leading the Power and Control Systems (P&CS) team, implementing SERIP/FIRM processes, ensuring compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and implementing safety protocols.”
He actively mentors junior engineers, oversees work order management, and ensures critical spare parts availability.
Furthermore, he manages P&CS Management of Change (MOC) processes, assists with turnaround planning, and participates in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to enhance operational efficiency.
Through his strong commitment to excellence and innovation, Mr Sobiyi continues to play an instrumental role in Chevron’s success. His expertise and leadership serve as an inspiration to engineers across Africa, including Ghana, as the energy sector continues to evolve.
