Ghanaians Will Enjoy under the NPP- Bawumia

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Running Mate to Nana Akufo-Addo, has said that with the current prevailing unbearable hardships and mismanagement of the economy by the NDC administration, Ghanaians would enjoy a breath of fresh air come December 7th when Nana Akufo-Addo is elected President of the Republic by the suffering millions.

The NPP Vice-Presidential candidate said this in Bolgatanga on Saturday at a forum organized at the Bolgatanga Polytechnic.

In apparent reaction to statements made earlier in the week by the President, Dr. Bawumia said, “When we talk about our policies and programmes, you hear some saying that soon we would even promise free air. We would not promise free air, but I can tell you one thing, Ghanaians would enjoy a breath of fresh air after December 7th 2012 when Nana Akufo-Addo and the NPP are elected to steer the affairs of this country competently

We would move away from propaganda in the management of the economy to real economic management. We would deliver low interest rates to our companies. We would deliver low cost of living to Ghanaians. We would stabilize the cedi fundamentally and not in a contrived manner that we have today. We would ensure that the private sector is energized to provide the jobs that we need and generally make life better for the ordinary Ghanaian,” he stated.

Dr. Bawumia who was speaking on a broad range of issues took on the NDC government for their poor management of the economy which had made life worse for the Ghanaian. He noted that the NDCs poor management of the economy had seen a decline in the real sector of the economy which was negatively affecting the creation of jobs and growth of the economy.

The NPP Vice-Presidential candidate indicated that aside the free secondary school pledge of the NPP, the government of Nana Akufo-Addo was going to take practical but bold steps to create the desired transformation of the economy and modernize the society.

Among these include a proper national identification system, a proper street addressing system and moving from a mainly cash economy to an electronic payment based economy. He pledged that the NPP administration would within the first year of administration streamline the National Identification Authority and resource it to ensure that all Ghanaians are issued with their Identification cards.

He insisted that the three key steps of instituting a proper identification system, a street address system and moving from a cash based economy are key to formalizing and growing the economy and noted that without these in place, it would be difficult to create the necessary jobs for the youth of the country.

On agriculture, Dr. Bawumia said that it was the aim of the NPP to make the North the breadbasket of Ghana and the West African sub-region and said that to this extent, the NPP administration would focus on a programme of major dam construction and irrigation facilities in the three northern regions to enable farmers to farm continuously throughout the year. He noted that Burkina Faso provides a good example for agriculture in the three northern regions and pledged that the Nana Akufo-Addo government would ensure that farmers had constant access to fertilizers and tractors to boost productivity on their farms.
