Ghanaians Now Need Passports To Enter Lome

Aflao (V/R) Ghanaians travelling to Lome have been advised to carry valid documents in accordance with new security measures adopted by the Togolese authorities. Travellers who hitherto could enter without documents are now required to carry passports or travelling certificates. Mr. J. T. Ocloo, Assistant Commissioner of CEPS in charge of Aflao, gave the advice when he briefed the Volta Regional Minister, Lieutenant-Colonel Agbanaza on new measures adopted by the Togolese since Monday for those entering their country. Mr. Ocloo said the measures have led to congestion and stampede at the border as travellers, especially Aflao residents who shuttle across the border daily, are stranded. He said a series of meetings have been held by border officials of the two countries to ease the situation which they are monitoring daily. Lt.-Col. Agbanaza commended the Ghanaian border officials for the mature manner in which they have handled the situation so far and asked them to maintain their composure.
