"Ghanaian" to compete for Miss Germany title

BERLIN -- The first black woman could be crowned as "Miss Germany" on Saturday from among 22 contenders competing in the final round for the national beauty title.

Dayan Tweneboah-Kodua, 24, was born in Ghana and moved to Germany 13 years ago. She has German citizenship and was voted "Miss Schleswig-Holstein" in the northern German state last November, propelling her into the national final.

"I'm not sure if Germany is ready for a black Miss," she told a news conference.

The finalists have been whittled down from 3,500 women who entered the competition. The panel of judges for Saturday's final includes famed former national soccer player Lothar Matthaeus and women's world boxing champion Regina Halmich.
