Ghanaian leaders ‘lording’ over poor citizens – Odike

Failed Presidential hopeful and Founder, leader of United Front Party, (UFP) Mr Akwasi Addai Odike has said most policies of leaders of the Republic of Ghana “backfire because leaders make themselves lords over the people”.

“Leaders mostly lord themselves over us (citizens)”, he chided.

Mr Odike’s comment was in reference to how most leaders have deliberately refused listened to citizens in policy implementations and in the long round such policies are seen to have backfired.

According to him, the role of leadership appointment in the country resides in the citizens hence leaders should not do things just to suit their personal political ambitions.

“You may have a fine policy, but if you do not carefully look into its implementation, it will backfire”. Mr Odike said this on Kumasi-based radio Abusua Fm, MyNewsGh.com monitored

Speaking on the current government and claims it rushed in policy implementation, Odike noted that, citizens have given a role to Nana Addo to lead and help their development, therefore, he (Nana Addo) must always seek advice from them”.

“Our leaders don’t do it. They only lord themselves doing only what suits them and not the citizenry, forgetting they were employed by the citizens”, he fumed.

Mr. Odike also thinks President Nana Addo has not done much when it comes to broader consultation with citizens in terms of policy implementation.

To him, Free SHS is a ‘pro-poor’ policy and not wholesale hence President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo got it wrong with what he described as wholesale implementation.

“ Free SHS as it stands now is taking a toll on the economy of Ghana”, he lamented.
