A Ghanaian woman, Ruth Sarfoa, from Wassa, is seeking public assistance after accusing her husband and family of betrayal, following allegations that her husband abandoned her and married her junior sister with the support of their father.
According to Ruth, she has four children with her husband, Kwadwo Kyei, a native of Tarkwa. She explained that her junior sister, who is 18 years younger than her, pleaded to come and stay with them in their marital home.
At the time, Ruth said her husband’s work had slowed down, leaving him at home most of the time with her junior sister while she went out to work.
Seeking help, she appeared on Sompa Nkomo on Sompa TV, a programme hosted by popular Ghanaian media personality Genevieve Abrefa Yeboah, also known as Oheneni Adazoa, which addresses domestic issues.
Ruth recounted that after staying with them for some time, her sister complained of illness and decided to return to their parents’ home. Unknown to her, the sister was pregnant.
She said her father later called her to inform her that her sister was pregnant for a man identified as “Owusu.” However, Ruth later discovered that the name had intentionally been changed to conceal the true identity of the man, who turned out to be her own husband.
“My junior sister begged me to come and stay with me in my husband’s house, so we lived together for a while. Later, she fell ill and went to our parents’ house, not knowing she was pregnant.
“When she left, my father later called me to say that my sister was pregnant for a man called Owusu, not knowing it was my husband. They intentionally changed the name. She has now given birth to the child, “she said.
Ruth further stated that her husband later went to a galamsey (illegal mining) site to work and her junior sister followed him to Tarkwa, where she married him and gave birth to his child.
She claims that since then, her husband and sister have been living together, abandoning her and their four children. According to Ruth, her husband has stopped sending money to support the children.

After confronting her father, identified as Kwame Amadu, Ruth said he openly admitted supporting the union between her husband and her junior sister, insisting that the man has a responsibility to care for the child he has with her sister.
“She told my father that my husband wanted to help her with work, so she was going to Tarkwa. My father supported her decision and now she is living with my husband in Tarkwa together with the child.”
Ruth says her rent has expired, she is struggling to cater for her four children and she feels completely neglected.
She is now appealing for help and guidance on what steps to take to support herself and her children.
