Sheikh Hashim Baba Ibn, a respected Islamic cleric from Tamale, has rendered an unqualified apology over a Facebook post in which he criticised the National Hajj Taskforce for poor service during the 2025 Hajj pilgrimage.
In a video shared on the Facebook page of the Pilgrims Affairs Office of Ghana on May 17, 2025, the cleric stated that the claims he made in the Facebook post, including complaints about poor service at his hotel, were not true.
He admitted that his comments were made out of ignorance and proceeded to publicly apologise.
“My name is Hashim Baba. I made a Facebook post yesterday about the ordeal pilgrims were going through during Hajj 2025 — Ghana Hajj 2025. I mentioned a number of challenges we were facing, especially in the hotel I was lodged in. I later realised, after contacting the authorities and the task force, that what I had said wasn’t actually factual.
“In fact, when they came, there were a lot of things that we were not aware of. That’s why I made those remarks, because we had limited information. Due to the large number of pilgrims, the authorities couldn’t attend to everything immediately. We became frustrated, and that led me to make such a video,” he explained.
He added, “So, I stand here and apologise to the highest office of the Hajj, to the lowest office, and to all members of the task force.”
Sheikh Hashim Baba went on to praise the National Taskforce for their organisation of the 2025 Hajj for Ghanaians.
“Honestly, they’ve put a lot of effort into this. And also the Dawah Committee — especially my able agents and his team — may Allah bless them. Whatever happened yesterday or in my post was an oversight. May Allah forgive us all. And I hope you will find it in your heart to forgive me,” he said.
