Ghanaian Canadian Association of Ontario (GCAO) Elects New Officers

The GCAO Advisory Board is pleased to announce that the Council of GCAO has elected new officers to run the Association for a four year term. At a well attended meeting on April 24, 2010, the Electoral Committee under the chairmanship of Mr Baffour Awuah held elections for the new officers. The moderator for the occasion was Mr. K. Mawutor, Ghana’s Consul General in Toronto.



The newly elected officers who will constitute the Executive Committee are:



President: Mr. Wofa Yaw Nyarko

Vice President: Mr. John Anati

Executive Secretary : vacant due to resignation of Ms Anna Aidoo

Assistant-Secretary: Ms Gifty Amoah

Treasurer: Mr. Larry Kutuadu

Organizing Secretary: Ms Patience Frimpong- Manso

Financial Secretary: Ms Rita Appiah



At an extraordinary meeting held in Toronto on Saturday May 1, the Advisory Board welcomed the newly elected officers and congratulated them on their success. The Advisory Board praised the members for agreeing to serve their community and encouraged them to do their work with honesty and dedication.

On behalf of the Advisory Board, the chairman , Dr Twum-Barima also thanked the Electoral Committee for the fair and orderly manner in which they carried out their work. He said the Advisory Board members were very much aware of the difficulties that the committee had encountered since its inception in June 13 2009, and praised them for their dedication and vigilance during these difficult times.



The Board also expressed sincere thanks and appreciation to the outgoing Executive Board for their service to the community during their term. They encouraged the outgoing Executives to cooperate with the incoming ones to ensure a smooth handover. To this end, the Advisory Board has engaged the services of a certified accountant to audit the books of the GCAO and to present his findings to a joint meeting of all interested parties before the official handing over ceremony.



It was agreed by all present that the new and old Executives begin consultative meetings as soon as possible and aim for a target date in July for the official handover in July during the celebration of Ghana’s Republic.



The Advisory Board also encourages the entire Ghanaian Canadian Community to support the new Executives to uplift the spirit of the Association and bring back a sense of unity in the community again.
