Acting Commissioner of Rent Control Department, Frederick Opoku, has expressed confidence in GhanaWeb's newly launched real estate platform, stating that its credibility is unquestionable while urging the company to maintain high standards by admitting only credible and licensed estate agents.

Speaking at the launch of GhanaWeb's maiden real estate platform on July 9, 2026, Opoku assured the media organisation of the Rent Control Department's full support, saying the department would collaborate with the platform to improve access to reliable housing services across the country.

"GhanaWeb is not in doubt. The assurance that I can give you is that the Rent Control Department of the Republic of Ghana will do everything humanly possible to make sure that we can make a lot of recommendations, so that more people can be able to use the platform," he said.

However, he stressed that the platform's success would depend largely on the credibility of the estate agents using it, urging GhanaWeb to thoroughly vet all agents before allowing them to operate on the platform.

"One very important issue here has to do with these agents and I really want you to open your eyes wide to make sure that those people who use the platform, especially the agents, are people who are credible," he stated.

The Acting Rent Commissioner welcomed the establishment of the Real Estate Agency Council (REAC), noting that the government's vision is to build a professional real estate industry.

He also condemned the activities of unregistered roadside agents, describing them as criminals who should not be given the opportunity to operate.

Opoku further assured GhanaWeb that the Rent Control Department was ready to help scrutinise agents who sign onto the platform to ensure only qualified professionals are listed.

He advised the public to exercise caution when engaging in property transactions, adding, "Be cautious, trade cautiously. I believe that this platform has come to stay, and you should do what is needful."
