Ghana to woo investors at Xiamen Investment Fair

Ghana is billed to make presentations to the global business community on Tuesday about the country’s investment opportunities at the ongoing 18th China International Fair for Investment and Trade (CIFIT) in Xiamen.

Ghana is among the more than 100 countries participating in the 18th CIFIT, which opened on Monday in Xiamen in the Fujian province.

More than 930 delegations are participating in the fair and investment forum as well as other sideshows.

The four-day event under the auspices of Ministry of Commerce provides a unique opportunity for local and foreign participants to seek cooperation and explore business opportunities.

Ghana Export Promotion Authority under the auspices of the Ministry of Trade and Industry is coordinating the participation of Ghanaian entrepreneurs and institutions in the fair.

About 20 Ghanaian companies and institutions operating in various sectors, including handicrafts, food and beverages and cosmetics are expected to expose their goods to the global investing public.

This is the second time Ghana is participating in a fair in China. The first was in 2013 at the Yiwu Forest Products Fair.

Mr Murtala Mohammed, Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, who is leading Ghana’s delegation to the fair, said it would provide an opportunity to expose the country’s investment opportunities to the rest of the world.

He said Ghana’s participation in the Fair would also help deepen the good and long standing political, economic and social relationships that exist between Ghana and China.

Chinese Vice Premier Wang Yang in his opening speech assured of his country’s continuous readiness to open up to foreign investment.

"The opening-up principle will stay unchanged for a long time,” he said.

The CIFIT is the only event in China that specialises in promoting international investment.
