Ghana signs air service agreement with 6 countries

Government through the Ministry of Aviation has signed six new Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA).

The country negotiated and initialed BASA with various contracting States including Saudi Arabia, Finland, Mozambique, and Colombia and also signed initialed BASA with Mauritius after going through the necessary processes requirements in Ghana.

This took place at the International Civil Aviation Organization Air Services Negotiation Event.

The Deputy Minister for Aviation, Mr. Yaw Afful led a Team of Experts from the Ministry, Ghana Civil Aviation Authority and Ghana Airports Company Limited to participate in the Air Services Negotiation Event.

The signing of these Agreements seeks to liberalize and facilitate passenger and cargo movements from one country to another. It will also improve air connectivity, enhance Intra-Africa and international trade, and reduce airfares among others.

This should position Ghana as the preferred hub for aviation in the sub-region as well as maximizing the huge investment in on-ground aviation infrastructure.

In view of the plans to establish a new national carrier, without the BASA, the yet to be unveiled Carrier will not be able to operate to any other country in the world.
