The Head of Department of Research at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) in Accra, Dr. Kwesi Aning has said that Ghana’s security must be a step ahead of the terrorist groups who operates especially in the sub-region and other parts of the world.

His calls come in the wake of numerous terrorist threats and prophecies that have been made about the country.

Speaking on Atinka FM’s AM Drive hosted by Kwame Adinkrah Thursday, the security expert said in order to battle terrorists effectively, Ghana’s security must take note of methods deployed by the different groups and devise means of fighting them should they make attempts on the nation.

He noted that a terrorist group like Al-Qaeda is noted for detonating bombs at populated places such as international airports and high-class hotels while ISIS is noted for unleashing terror on their enemies through gun fires.

He said although the terrorists keep varying their targets, it will be imperative to note their regular venues and prepare to block their operations in those areas.

Dr.Kwesi Aning lauded President John Mahama’s decision to create a counter-terrorism unit among the security forces and argued that the unit should be resourced enough to catch up with the tactics and operations of terrorists and be ahead of them.

He stated that terrorist attacks are not new in the country and mentioned the Kulungugu bomb attack, which happened during the reign of Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah.

Touching on the T.B Joshua’s prophecy on terror attack which threw the entire nation into a state of panic, Dr. Aning said the televangelist’s prophecy lacked innovation since he only said the obvious.
