Ghana's population growth rate estimated at 2.7%

Sekondi, May 26, GNA - Ghana's population growth rate is estimated at 2.7 percent, Mr Benjamin Whyte, Western Regional Population Officer, said on Thursday.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Sekondi, he said the National Population Council is working to reduce the growth rate to about 2 per cent.

"To achieve this, all stakeholders must come together and step up education on the use of modern contraceptives". He said Ghana has a youthful population and a lot of young boys and girls are now entering the reproductive age and that "there is in-built population momentum and population would continue to increase before stabilising".
