Ghana’s peace not under threat - Peace Council

The National Peace Council has rejected claims that Ghana’s peace is under a serious threat.

The Metropolitan Archbishop of the Anglican Church of the Province of West Africa Most Reverend Dr. Daniel Yinkah-Sarfo is pushing for Ghana’s security forces on peace keeping missions to be brought back home.

Dr. Yinkah-Sarfo believes there are pressing domestic issues that require the attention of full complement of the country’s security forces. He cites the Fulani menace, armed robbery attacks, chieftaincy clashes, and the murder of the Abuakwa North legislator to back his claims.

Speaking to Starr News over the suggestion, the chairman for the National Peace Council Most Rev Prof Emmanuel Asante said the move will not guarantee peace in the nation.

Prof. Asante rather want the security services to be well equipped to address the current security challenges.

“I don’t really think that we have to recall security forces who are on peacekeeping missions outside the country, I don’t really think so. I think that we have the men and women here who have the capability and capacity. All we need is to equip them. We need to assist them; we need to cooperate with them,” he said.

He added: “We ourselves must be one another’s keeper in this matter. Ghana must be very important to the extent that we’ll be watching. You go to the western country, especially in Britain. If you enter a neighborhood and they do not know you in a few minute you will find the police passing by because some old lady hiding somewhere in the window has seen a strange person moving around and they have called the police. I think the police must start doing serious education ensuring that their numbers (contacts) are available. So that people know their numbers”.
