Ghana praises Chile for impressive rescue of miners

Accra, Oct 16, GNA - President John Atta Mills has expressed Ghana's admiration of the Chilean people for the epic rescue of the 33 miners, trapped 2,041 feet deep, in the San Jose Mine for more than two months.

"On behalf of the Government and the people of Ghana, and on my own behalf, I wish to extend our warmest congratulations to you, the government and the people of Chile for this spectacular feat which has won your country richly-deserved admiration throughout the world," President Mills said in a letter to the Chilean President, Sebastian Pinera Echenique, on Thursday.

"It was with great joy that that we witnessed the success of the spectacular rescue operation that saved all the thirty-three-mine workers."

President Mills commended the Chilean leader saying, "Your able leadership and personal fortitude throughout the grueling days of fear and anxiety that gripped your country and the people around the world has been an inspiration to all."

He said he was confident that the experience of Chile would further deepen our appreciation of our common humanity as the " heroic miners and their families and the world at large unite in joy and gratitude."
