Dr. Clement Apaak, Member of Parliament for Builsa South, has reacted to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's claims that he was joking when he suggested churches should be paid for service to the nation.

The lawmaker stated that this is not the time to elect a joker as president, given the challenges facing the country.

Vice President Dr. Bawumia clarified that he was joking when he said his administration would pay rather than tax churches.

The presidential candidate of the NPP mentioned that his statement was taken out of context, explaining that it was made within the context of acknowledging the contributions of the church and other faith-based institutions, such as building schools, hospitals, and other essential facilities, and that they deserve support to do more.

However, Dr. Apaak, a serial critic of Bawumia, responded that we cannot consider a "comical liar" for the presidency.

He argued that, given the serious challenges facing the country and the hardships Ghanaians are experiencing, we need a competent leader.

He advocated for a visionary, sincere, and honest leader like former President John Dramani Mahama to be the next president.

He praised Mahama as the only individual capable of addressing the challenges facing Ghanaians. This statement was made in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.

"Now is not the time to consider a comical liar. Certainly not a joker at this critical juncture.

"With the serious challenges we face as a nation, we need a serious, focused, visionary, sincere, and honest leader. This leader is John Dramani Mahama, the man equipped to tackle our challenges, not a joker."
