A former Chief of Defense Staff (CDS), Brigadier-General (rtd) Joseph Nunoo-Mensah, has predicted that Ghana may run into chaos if immediate steps are not taken to correct the current political system.

He says seeds of chaos are being sown everywhere in the country.

“I don’t sleep easily in Ghana today,” he bemoaned on 3FM/TV3’s The Key Points on Saturday, September 21.

According to him, almost everybody including military officers, who are known to be disciplined, go about their duties anyhow.

“We may run Ghana aground in the not-too-distant future,” he predicted.

The former presidential security advisor was speaking on the back of the Ayawaso West Wuogon Commission’s report, which government disagreed with in parts.

After the report was made public, a majority of the recommendations, one of which is the criminal prosecution of SWAT officer Mohammed Sulemana for slapping lawmaker Samuel Nartey George, was rejected by government.

According to the White Paper issued by government, Mr Sulemana had “a valid defence of provocation for the said assault”.

This and many other portions of the White Paper is what Brigadier-General (rtd) Nunoo-Mensah is disgusted by.

“The way we are running Ghana is not the way Ghana should be run,” he observed.

He cited how he was once at a polling station in the 2012 elections and military officers came there and flouted rules without recourse to voters there.

“When the old men are talking, don’t think the grey hair they went and bought it,” he warned.
