“I am not one to make promises I know I cannot keep, all in the name of getting votes. I have too much love and respect for Ghanaians to make promises which I cannot fulfill. I will never do that.”

These were the words of the 2016 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, whilst addressing residents of Adabokrom, in the Bia East constituency, on day-2 of his tour of the Western Region.

Having announced the ‘1-District-1-Factory’ policy, the diversification of Ghana’s agriculture, the true implementation of the Free SHS policy, the revival of the collapsed NHIS, and the establishment of a Zongo Development Fund, amongst others, Nana Akufo-Addo has assured Ghanaians that these policies will be implemented to the latter when he is given the mandate to serve Ghana in the December 7 election.

He reiterated that “we in the NPP will not make promises we cannot keep. When we said we were going to implement the NHIS, the late President Mills and the NDC said it could not be done. However, President Kufuor did it. Likewise, I am telling Ghanaians that Free SHS policy, amongst others, will be truly implemented to the benefit of all.”

Nana Akufo-Addo, in recent times, has indicated that the Teacher and Nursing Training allowances, which were cancelled by the Mahama government, will be reintroduced, when he wins this year’s election. This pledge received widespread condemnation from government functionaries and communicators, who described this move as misplaced.

“Today, however, President Mahama has seen the light and is also saying he going to pay the allowance of nurses, albeit it in the form of some small pittance. We want the full restitution of allowances that are due the teachers and trainee nurses. This should not be about propaganda,” he said.

On the lack of potable water for residents in Adabokrom, Nana Akufo-Addo explained that many countries, in the 21st century, have resolved the issue water for its citizens, whilst Ghana continues to grapple with the situation.

“That cannot be right, for a country like Ghana. We want to have water for everybody in this country – Water for All. That is one of the things we are going to do when we win,” he said.

He continued, “Ghana, a country which was the envy of the entire continent, is now in tatters. Help me and help push the NPP into jubilee house, so we can create jobs for all Ghanaians, as well as bring progress and prosperity to the country. Ghanaians are suffering too much. Ghana is not a poor country. We are going to develop this country and rapidly ensure prosperity for all Ghanaians.”

Nana Akufo-Addo assured residents of Bia East that “we in the NPP have the men and women who can give this country a 1st class government, and help create jobs, and bring progress and prosperity to all.”
