Ghana will today join the rest of the world to celebrate the 74th anniversary of the United Nations. The Republic of Ghana as a member has been committed to the principles and objectives of the UN Charter since its establishment.
A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and copied to GhanaWeb says “The commemoration signifies Ghana’s time-honoured dedication to integrating the goals of the organisation into the national political vision that places emphasis on peace and security, human rights, democracy and sustainable development.”
“Over the years, Ghana has continued to play significant and leadership roles in the growth of the United Nations and to maintain peace, ensure global development and human rights,” the statement reads further.
The statement added that Ghana fully appreciated the importance of getting the United Nations closer to the people in their communities in the pursuit of the SDGs particularly on matters of good health, well-being and good environmental practices, which are essential to the country’s development.
“It is in this respect that government has fostered close partnership with the UN agencies in Ghana to facilitate their direct engagement within communities,” the statement said.
The year’s celebration will be held under the theme “A clean environment for a healthy living, our collective responsibility.”
