Ghana art Coffins in exhibition in Antwerp, Belgium

On Saturday 22 August 2009, the Ghanaian Community in Belgium , the Federation of Anglophone Africans in Belgium (FAAB) together with two foundations in Belgium: "BOULEVARD AMANDLA", and La Piscine d'activit? opened one week exposition of Artistic Coffins from Ghana in the Belgian city of Antwerp.
Ten coffins were imported from Ghana for the exhibition and they were accompanied by the maker Eric Adjetey Anang, a grandson of the late Kane Kwei the original maker of the coffins from Teshie Nungua in Accra.Two coffins were placed at the Antwerp Central Train Station and three others were shown in three different Galeries in the city.
Five of the coffins were paraded in the streets of Antwerp after 4 hours exhibition at de Coningsplein (a square in the city centre).
Ghanaian cultural groups the "Asempa Group" and the "Akwaaba Group" provided tradtional music to suit the occassion.
Prayers were said and libation were poured to open the ceremonie. The consular from the Ghana Embassy in Brussels made an opening speech and the President of the Ghanaian Community in Belgium led the whole programme. Hundreds of people from all walks of life came to withness the event.
