Ghana and Mali to deepen cordial relations

Accra, Feb. 8, GNA - President John Agyekum Kufuor on Tuesday stressed the need for Ghana and Mali to strengthen and deepen their cordial ties for their mutual benefit. He said the relationship between both countries had existed for many years and it was opportune to strengthen and deepen it. President Kufuor made the call when the Malian Ambassador in Ghana, Mr Mohamed Mahmoud Ben Labat paid a courtesy call on him at the Castle, Osu.

He described the Malian President Amadou Toumani Toure as a remarkable leader in West Africa and lauded his openness and due regard for humanity.

"In spite of his military background he is a democrat who after serving his country accepted to be elected as President to serve his country again."

Mr Labat on behalf of his country congratulated President Kufuor for his re-election and wished him a successful second tenure of office. He pledged the commitment of Mali to continue with the strengthening of the cordial relationship between both countries. In another development Mr Kaikhosrou K. Framji, Indian High Commissioner in Ghana, held a close-door meeting with President Kufuor when he paid a courtesy call on him.
