Ghana and Burundi signs MOU on student exchange programme

Accra, July 13, GNA - Ghana's Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the Republic of Burundi, on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to engage in exchange programmes on science and research at higher levels of education.

The MOU also seeks to enhance and promote mutual co-operation among institutions of higher learning of both countries to facilitate admission of students on competitive rates.

Mr Alex Tettey-Enyo, Minister of Education signed for his sector Ministry, whilst Dr Saidi Kibeya, Minister for Higher Education and Scientific Research of the Republic of Burundi initialled for his country.

In a statement, Mr Tettey-Enyo said the MOU held prospects for students of higher education of the two countries.

"We welcome this agreement as it seeks to provide avenues for quality education in the areas of science, technology and Information, Communication and Technology for our students," the Minister said. Describing it as a noble venture, Mr Tettey-Enyo said he was hopeful that benefits to be derived from the MOU would start to manifest as early as possible to empower students to be able to face the technologically-driven challenges of the world.

Mr Kibeya said the signing of the MOU marked a new era of educational development for Burundi.

He expressed the hope that the MOU would enhance and shape the future of education for the youth in both countries.
