The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration decision in Accra, May 2011 commemorate the 49th Anniversary of the AU Day, to devote the 25th May 2012 Summit to the theme “Boosting Intra-Africa Trade Through Entrepreneurship” from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, at the Accra International Conference Center in Ghana.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ghana in collaboration with the Model African Union Secretariat under the Ghana Center for Entrepreneurship, Employment and Innovation and Vibe FM’s Africa Talks Show is organizing a continental Youth high level Mock African Union Summit as part of the African Union Day week long Celebration. Delegates between the ages of 15 - 35 are expected to play roles as Heads of States and authentically simulate an African Union Heads of State Summit.
Ghana will on Friday host about 500 Youth Leaders from all across Africa at this Year’s Model African Union Summit held under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the 25th of May 2012 at the Accra International Conference Center from 10:00am, as part of this year’s Africa Day Celebration of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Summit which has some of its programs on the day for Delegates and Officials as a police escorted Bus tour of some principal AU Monuments such as the AU monument at the Liberation Circle, Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum and a tour round the Nationalism Park, joining the representatives of Foreign Missions in Accra at the forecourt of the State House for the official AU Day flag-raising Ceremony, and then the Official Plenary and Committee Sessions as well as a photo exhibition at the Accra International Conference Center from 10:00am.
Delegates at this Summit will role-play and simulate the workings of an African Union Summit and are expected to provide a practical outcome document to be implemented as was done last year, following the adoption and capture by the Government of Ghana of our initiative,” the Center for Entrepreneurship, Employment and Innovation” captured in paragraph 107, page 24 of the 2012 Budget of Ghana.
This Summit for Young individuals and Leaders between 18 and 35, is to brainstorm and help create awareness on how youth can help boost intra-Africa trade through Entrepreneurship, offer a Networking opportunity for young people, and also give the platform to these Youth leaders to learn about Diplomacy and Researching, as well as learning about the workings of the African Union.
Delegates accepted from across Africa, comprising of Youth Leaders in Africa and other Youth engaged in Diplomacy across Africa will be required to debate amongst themselves on the theme:"Boosting Intra-Africa trade through Entrepreneurship", as they represent member states of the African Union which will be allocated upon acceptance to the Summit
The General Public is invited but will be accredited on entering the Accra International Conference Center, body scanners will be manned by officials of the National Security to ensure the utmost protection of all at this year’s Summit.
