Accra, Sept. 3, GNA - The Ghana Shippers' Council has been adjudged the 2007 Best Maritime Agency in trade facilitation in West Africa, a statement issued in Accra said on Wednesday. The statement signed by Nana Agyekum Gyamerah, Public Relations Manager of the Council, said the Council received the award at the West Africa Maritime Awards (WAMA) held in Accra.

It said the award was in recognition of the Council's contribution of the development of maritime infrastructure in Ghana and to appreciate its role in activities of the Union of African Shippers' Councils. The statement said the award was also to acknowledge the Council's role in protecting and promoting the interests of shippers in Ghana and West Africa.

The Council, it stated, won the award after a rigorous nomination and screening exercise supervised by respected industry experts from diverse backgrounds within the sub-region. Other awards won by the Council include the Best Organised Shippers' Council in West and Central Africa, the statement said. 3
